About the Guest:

John Heddleston is a Research Scientist who has jumped between specializations, locations, and institutions. He received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Case Western Reserve University and his Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology from Case Western. John's next career stop was as a National Research Council postdoctoral fellow at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Maryland.

John got his first "real" job at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Janelia Research Campus in northern Virginia, where he worked with research scientists from around the world. He also had several amazing opportunities to travel internationally and teach others to utilize advanced microscopy in their research programs. After six years in Virginia, John's next stop was as a microscopy core director at the Cleveland Clinic's Florida Research and Innovation Center (FRIC), where he was responsible for managing and operating a microscopy core and collaborating with other FRIC research groups. After two years, John returned north to Indianapolis, Indiana, where he now works as a senior research scientist for a pharmaceutical company.

Aside from being a scientist, John's major passions include spending as much time with his wife and kids as possible, walking his 80 lb lap dog, and being an unapologetic Star Wars and video game nerd.
